Abstract

Given the challenges and limitations within globalization, both regarding its limited capacity to solve problems of inequality in the world, as well as on its environmental consequences, and considering the essential role undertaken by corporations as an essential factor for capital diversification, investment growth and development of markets, this article analyses the origin and nature of the corporate law rules and its regulatory treatment on each different period of time, to conclude mentioning the principal contemporary tendencies on the structuring and management of companies, which under principles of environmental protection, social responsibility and adequate corporate governance, become the main vehicle for sustainable development in contemporary economies.
